11 of the hottest home and interior design trends for Spring/Summer 2019

The main theme for home interiors for 2019 is for more sustainability and natural materials. When it comes to decoration for homes the main emphasis is on choosing designs that are classic and longer lasting, with of course some pretty colours to embrace.

1.70s Scandi:

 

This is quite a pared-back look evolved around simplicity and a bright colour palette. 1970's Scandi has a graphic feel with geometric prints, earthy colours and natural materials. Less is more with this look, no need to over clutter however a few accessories such as planters and statement lighting add a nice touch to this trend.

2. Recycled Kitchen:

 

As mentioned sustainability is key this year and you will start to see this come through in all your favourite homeware stores. This kitchen is made from recycled wood and covered with a plastic foil made from recycled PET Bottles and the end result is a great looking kitchen that also ticks another trend - Darker Kitchens. Team this look with wooden worktops, brass traps and plants.

3. Beautiful Textures:

This is a beautiful tactile trend based around slow living, highlighting natural materials.  This trend is all about creating a cosy, homely feel by mixing your textures with tactile throws and cushions.  French Connection has launched a bedding range incorporating natural substrates, raw materials and hand finished techniques.

4. Mix and Match Pattern: 

     

To counter the minimalist look, pattern is also key this season, using a combination of patterns and styles together. The key is to keep the colour palette in the same tone, eg here you can see everything blends in with the same tone, nothing stands out. The plain furniture, floor boards,  and coffee table acts as a blank canvas, the rug and wallpaper pulls the look together.

5.Mustard: 

 

Mustard has been the go-to shade over the warmer months. However, there is now a move from small pops of mustard to larger pieces which add a bold, refreshing burst of colour to our homes.  Mustard is a versatile shade which works well with pink, team, indigo blue and crisp white, creating a more fresh look.

6. Mid- Century: 

 

Sleek lines, tapered table legs and simplicity are key ingredients to mid-century design. This trend has longevity and suits a minimalist home. Use limited accessories and limited colour palette to let the shapes own the room.

7. Homespun Style Ceramics: 

 

Organic style ceramics with subtle patterns and artisanal elements will be popular this summer.  The main colours for this trend are natural plus blush pink and jet black.

8. Open Shelving:

  

Kitchen trends are moving away from having everything hidden away to having your items on show for example have some jugs of different shapes and sizes for pasta, cereal, oats etc.  Kitchens are now having cabinetry in the base units allowing walls to remain open and bright.

9. Raw and Unfinished:

10. Scallioped Shapes:

   

Scalloped shaped accessories such as chairs, bedheads, basins and tiles are all key pieces to this look. This trend backs us back to the art deco era where Scalloped edges where on dresses, mirrors and decorative accessories. The colours are bold so team with prints and patterns for a decorative look.

11. Living Coral:

  

Pantone's colour of 2019 is Living Coral, a warm nurturing shade that is set to energise and enliven out homes. Crown have also brought our their own shade a called Powdered Clay.  Living Coral brings warmth to any room, the palette works well with soft chalky colours or for a pop of colour add bright oranges and reds.
